Beverly Hills for reals

Where to begin....
This rotation has been anything but the 3 month vacation I was hoping for.
Let me just complain tell you all about it-
1- Chris is gone from 7:30am to 7:30pm almost everyday. It sucks.
2- We only have one car here, so most days I am stuck at home for those 12 hours. So hard!
3- The apartment we are subleasing looked fine on craigslist but up close and personal it's pretty gross and grimy.
4- Our apartment also happens to have bed bugs. I don't even have words for this.
5- Londyn had a hard time adjusting to life here and didn't feel well the first week or so. She became a fussy baby and stopped sleeping through the night.
6- Our insurance situation is less than ideal for Londyn so we didn't take her to the doctor. She's fine now, but now we are worried about her head. It is majorly lopsided from 2 months of sleeping with her head to the right. I'm 99% sure that she will need a helmet to even it out! So do we take her to a specialist here only to move a month or so into the "treatment"? Or do we wait until she is 5 months and lopsided even more to see a doctor in Utah?

All of this equals one stressed, depressed, frustrated, tired mama.

Add a 3.3 magnitude earthquake in Beverly Hills at 3:30am and I've just about lost it.

Only 10 weeks left....I can do this.

Ok. Here's how I manage-
1- Chris being gone all the time sucks bad and I would not survive without the weekends. The weekends are what save me! They feel like a vacation and we have done a lot of fun things that I will finally blog about. But I am counting down the days until we are done here. During the week I want to move home but on the weekends I want to stay here forever.
2- I will drive Chris to work and pick him up sometimes so that I can have a car to get out of the house and run errands. I am someone that loves to get out of the house for anything so those days are the best.
3- Luckily gross and grimy places can be cleaned so our living situation is a little bit better.
4- Oh bed bugs. Why?! WHY?! My roommate Candice and I had bed bugs at Utah State 4 or 5 years ago. They were awful and we moved out right away. The lady we are subleasing from is out of the country so we're not really sure what to do about them. It's a complicated situation, subleasing and all. We don't even know if it's legal but everybody does it. The biggest concern here is making sure we don't bring the bed bugs back to Utah with us and contaminate my parent's house.
5- Londyn is doing SO much better now. She's back to sleeping through the night (mostly) and is her happy, laid back, chill little self again. Thank GOODNESS.
6- I have no solution for this head situation. Tell me what to do someone please.

So that is what life is like here for us. Not so fun.
However....I absolutely love the area, the weather, the palm trees, the insanely nice houses and cars, and everything to do around here.

Our first weekend here we went to the Griffith Observatory to check out the Hollywood sign.
It was ridiculously hot and crowded and the sign was much smaller and further than we expected.
View of downtown L.A.

See the itty bitty Hollywood sign? Yeah not terribly impressive that far away.

Love this little family of mine.

Stayed tuned for more of our adventures!

Londyn's Latest: 3 months

Hey guys, it's Londyn.
I am 3 months old today!
This past month has been interesting....
Mom and Dad dragged me to Beverly Hills and I had a hard time adjusting.
I had to get my shots the day before we left and then I was in my carseat for 13 hours over the next 2 days.
I didn't feel very well and was in unfamiliar surroundings so it was a bit rough.
My schedule got thrown off and I stopped sleeping through the night.
Don't worry though! I'm feeling all better and am back to sleeping most of the night.
But I kind of hate my carseat now.
I really like this playmat that Mom brought to B.H. for me.
I'm getting good at grabbing, kicking and punching those toys dangling in my face.
When I get grumpy one surefire way to make me smile is to shake a rattle or toy in front of me, I crack every time!
I like to talk with "coos" and "agoo's" these days. Mom and Dad just eat that right up.
My cheeks hurt a lot from smiling so much.
You should see my parents act like idiots just to make me smile and laugh.
I like to put up a fight when it comes to naps but don't mind going to bed at night.
If I can get Mom to give up on a nap I get loopy and laugh at anything.
I have this crazy desire to suck on something but I refuse to take a binky so I was giving Mom some trouble. I couldn't fall asleep without nursing until she tried the swaddler. Holy cow that thing knocked me right out! I slept for 11 1/2 hours for the first time ever.
I sleep soooo much better when I'm swaddled now.
We've been going out a lot on the weekends and I get dragged around.
I experienced my first earthquake. I wasn't phased by it at all...Mom was pretty freaked out though!
Have you guys ever tried putting your fist in your mouth? I'm getting so good at it and do it alllllll day long.
Tummy time is so much better now that I can hold my head up.
When I'm nursing I love to move my arm all around and grab Mom's clothes, face, neck, stick my elbow in the air, etc.
Now prepare for picture overload:
Too cool for shots
Cooling off in our hot hotel room in Vegas
My fingers are so tasty!
What a silly sleeping face I have.
Grinning at Daddy.
The time I slept for 11 1/2 hours.

I'm losing my girlish figure and getting chunky.
Happy 3 months to me!

90210: Rubbing Shoulders

When we picked Beverly Hills for Chris' rotation, rumor had it that this practice had a few celebrities as patients.
I thought that was quite exciting and Chris couldn't care less!

In the 2 weeks we've been here we like to joke that we've been rubbing shoulders with the celebs....more than I expected in 3 months, let alone 2 weeks!

Our first Sunday in our new ward we noticed a silly looking man in sacrament.
His hair was highlighted and cut super trendy (aka weird) and he was wearing a very nice suit, tie and matching pocket hanky.
After I pointed him out to Chris I kept watching him and thinking that he looked familiar....
it didn't take me long to realize that it was Dr. 90210!
If you don't know who that is....
he is a plastic surgeon that had his own tv show (on cable) a few years ago.
My mom used to watch his show (the only reason I knew who he was) and had even wondered if she had caught a glimpse of a picture of a temple in their house. We wondered if they were LDS.

This last weekend we went to The Grove and Farmers Market and saw Matt Barnes.
(Plays for the Lakers).
The back of him (plaid shirt, super tall and lots of tattoos).
I literally almost rubbed shoulders with him, he walked right past me.

At the practice Chris is working at (right on Wilshire Blvd, a few roads away from Rodeo Dr) he has already seen 2 celebs there.
One he talked to (Straight up, now tell me...are you going to wish I could tell you who? Blame President Clinton for creating HIPAA) and one he only saw from behind (Yo Adrienne...).
He also found out several other celebs that go to this Doctor that he might see....A list celebs :)

Chris also claims there was someone in priesthood this week that he recognized from a movie...but he can't remember what movie and doesn't know his name. ha.
We'll keep you posted on that one.

We've come up with a code word to alert each other whenever we are "rubbing shoulders" with celebs.
Let us know if you want in on this.
It's going to be hard to say goodbye to all our celeb friends at the end of 3 months ;)

90210: The Move

Our family of 3 making the trek to L.A.
Don't worry, we were only at South Town Mall at this point.
I guess someone was excited to be on our way.
It was probably Londyn...she was so excited she slept all the way to St. George.
Doesn't get any better than this.

Perfect little Londyn.

Warning: The following story contains photos that may be unsuitable for small children.
Viewer discretion is advised.
We had to get here on Wednesday so we could get the keys for the apartment we are subleasing and check it out. The lady that we are subleasing it from was leaving the country at 6am the following morning so we needed a hotel for the night...The cheapest we found was $120.
Thanks to priceline we found an "upscale" hotel for that price right on Sunset Blvd.

After having the valet park our car, we walked into the lobby to find this:
It smelled INCREDIBLE.
And...
What. the. crap. isthatpicture?!

Ok, whatever. Weird but maybe that is what West Hollywood considers "upscale."

We went down to our room and as soon as the bellhop left I doubled over in shock and laughter.
The room smelled incredible.
But WHAT THE CRAP?! ARE THOSE PICTURES?!

Giant legs above one bed....

AND....

 giant boobs/cleavage above the other!

We had to shield Londyn's eyes with her sunglasses.

Along with the outrageous decor were some outrageous prices for the minibar.
$8.50 for chocolate buttons (aka m&ms)?!

There was also NO free wifi. And the valet cost $35.

The beds were comfy and did I mention it smelled incredible there?
But we were glad to be out of there the next day and into our apartment.
Londyn got sick so we've done some lounging.

And yes, living in a stranger's apartment and using their things is very, very weird.
Especially when their level of cleanliness doesn't quite match your own.
But we are getting used to it and are looking forward to the next 12 weeks...
As long as they remain giant-boob free.

Blessing, Birthdays and Bear Lake

I've got to get this post out of the way so I can blog about Beverly Hills and the adventures we've had since we've been here!

Blessing
We blessed Londyn on August 5.
Chris did a wonderful job and gave her a beautiful blessing!
Right before church and right before Londyn spit up ALL over her dress.
The cutest little sparkle shoes that her cousins Maddy and Quinn both wore for their blessings.
Eric & Tayvia,  Chris & Londyn
Best friends with their daughters (6 weeks apart).

Birthdays
It also happened to be Nikki's birthday.

During this crazy week we had a wedding shower for my cute cousin Alissa.

On August 4th for my grandma's 90th birthday all of my dad's side of the family took a chartered bus down to Mt. Pleasant.
haha who does that?!
It was definitely an activity I will always remember.

My grandma grew up in Mt. Pleasant and wanted to see her old house, cemetery and a bakery.
It was actually a lot of fun.
Londyn was great as usual. I loved this pic with one foot of curled toes and one foot of splayed toes (plus fists ready to box).

My grandma's grandpa built this house.

This pic captured the one time Londyn cried during the trip.

Bear Lake
Every year my mom's side of the family goes to Bear Lake for a weekend.
We've had to miss the last 3 years but finally got to go this year!
Londyn made it really easy on us and slept in her carseat for a lot of the weekend.
Definitely her daddy's daughter.

Cute KK.

If Londyn wasn't sleeping in her car seat she was hiding under the nursing cover.

Cute little feet poking out.

Kayak-er Chris

We were able to get in on some tubing wars while Londyn napped on the beach!
After a 2 year boating drought I'd forgotten how much fun it is.

Favorite quote from the weekend*:
Dave- "Hey Savannah, what would you do if my name was 'life jacket'?"
Savannah- "I'd put you right on me and head on out there!" (Pointing towards the lake).

*Yes, I realize this was a totally bizarre conversation.

Stay tuned for Beverly Hills adventures!
